Village of Merton Fire Department

The Village of Merton Fire Department Inc. was founded January 1, 2024 as a conversion of the Merton Community Fire Department which was founded January 1, 2015 as a merger between the Merton Fire Department Inc. and the North Lake Fire Department Inc.

​

Both departments were originally founded in 1917.

North Lake History of Chiefs:

  • Gordon Larkey 1924 – 1945

  • Erv Will 1946 – 1951

  • Fred Hanson 1952 – 1954; 1958 – 1968

  • Gene Daley 1955 – 1957

  • Elroy Schweitzer 1969 – 1970

  • Winfred ‘Windy’ Stapleton 1971 – 1973

  • Terry ‘Tape’ Stapleton 1974 – 2005

  • James Cull 2006 – 2008

  • Jack VanGoethem 2009 – 2012

  • John Marchek 2013 – 2014
