We also provide full Emergency Medical Services including a tiered Paramedic
Level Response utilizing the City of Delafield Fire Department Paramedics.
In addition, a Paramedic is based in our station 10 hours per day, 7
days a week as part of a collaborative effort between the Villages of
Merton and Sussex and the City of Delafield.
Through a generous donation from Oconomowoc Memorial and Waukesha Memorial
Hospital Foundations, we can now perform 12 lead EKG’s and transmit
the information to the Hospital we are transporting to. This greatly
reduces the time for the cardiac patient to receive definitive treatment.
This past year we received a $38,000.00 grant from FEMA to purchase
new Turn-out gear for all of our members. This includes helmets, hoods,
coats, pants, boots and gloves that incorporate the latest safety and
protective features to keep our personnel safe.
MFD also has full Extrication capability utilizing TNT extrication tools
and equipment to rescue victims trapped in auto accidents and other
types of emergencies. We recently have received a Grant from the Medical
College of Wisconsin to participate in S.A.F.E. extrication training
which will help us to more effectively extricate patients from vehicles.
Due to a generous donation from the family of one of our patients, we
now have full ice rescue capability with an inflatable rescue boat,
two rescue suits, and all related support equipment.
The City of Waukesha Fire Department is contracted with the Village
of Merton, and is available in the Town of Merton, to provide full Technical
Rescue Services including: Confined Space Entry, Trench Rescue, Building
Stabilization, and High Angle Rescue.
The Merton Fire Department is equipped to handle basic Hydrocarbon type
Hazardous Materials Incidents and is covered by City Of Waukesha Fire
Department Haz-Mat Team for Level "B" responses and City of
Milwaukee Fire Department for Level "A" responses. The Rapid
Intervention Team (RIT), which provides rescue capabilities for trapped
Firefighters, is provided by Western Waukesha County Rapid Intervention
Team (WWCRIT), and Richfield Fire Department as a back-up.
The Merton Fire Department and Sussex Fire Department are involved in
regular joint training and drills including Advanced Vehicle Extrication
and "Combat Tactics", which is a standardized operation to
more effectively utilize personnel. Fire and EMS Training is held every
Monday night, with our business meeting being held the second Monday
of the month.
The Merton Fire Department is part of the nationally recognized Mutual
Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). We are also a member of the Lakes Area
Mutual Aid Fire Departments Chief’s Association and the Waukesha
County Association of Fire Chiefs
Emergency dispatching is provided by Waukesha County Communications
(WCC) which utilizes a state of the art facility and technology. With
this system, the above mentioned resources are able to be automatically
dispatched simultaneously with the Merton Fire Department, based on
the nature of the call.
Automatic Mutual Aid is provided by Sussex, Lisbon, Hartland, and North
Lake Fire Departments for all structure fires.
The Town of Merton is also served by Hartland Fire Department, North
Lake Fire Department, and Stone Bank Fire Department
